Hubby traveled so much for work this summer that he had a couple of free hotel nights that had be used and soon. He was out in the field working all day Friday, we had no plans for the weekend.
Within 30 minutes of him getting home, we had decided to go to Seattle for the weekend, we'd phoned to redeem our free night at the Best Western Plus Plaza by the Green for Friday night and at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites in Lynnwood for Saturday night, packed, found hubby's passport (at the hangar) and were on the road.
Thanks to our Nexus cards there was not wait at the border. If we'd had to use the normal lanes the wait was 30 mins. Gotta love Nexus. Seriously if you don't have it, and you cross the border a couple of times a year, you should get it. $50.00 for 5 years is worth it.
We stopped at Costco to buy new windshield wipers. It was dark and pouring, and all my wipers were doing was smearing the rain across the windshield. Making it very hard to see. Not the best when you're driving down the I5 at 70 miles an hour.
Right next to Costco is a Five Guys Burgers and Fries. You should never choose a dinner spot when you're already starving. Five Guys is so not healthy, but it was good. Hubby had a regular burger, which is two patties. It was huge. Luckily I only ordered the Little Burger. There's no way I could have eaten the regular. We split an order of large cajun fries, which were really salty. Even sharing the fries, we didn't eat half of them. Next time we'll both order the little burger, and slit a regular fries.
We had a great room at the Best Western, king bed, view over the golf course which we couldn't see as it was dark and a welcome basket. I went for a run in the hotel gym and then it was time to sleep. Breakfast was free, but not overly exciting. Toast, bagels, waffles, cereal, yoghurt and bananas.
Then we started our day of shopping. First up Frys and Target. Hubby spent a bit in Frys on who knows what. And I managed to cross quite a lot of things of my Christmas shopping list. Target is great for stocking stuffers. I also stocked up on Aquaphor, moisturizer and other essentials.
Onto University Village. Hubby stayed in the car and played with his iPhone. He finally got a pay as you go sim card for the US and a data plan - web access for $1.49 for a 24 hour period. That's an awesome rate. Meanwhile I was shopping/window shopping at J Crew, Anthropologie, Madewell, Crate & Barrel, Pandora, Victoria's Secret and Williams-Sonoma. I didn't even get round 1/2 the stores. Next time I'll send hubby to the Ram Restaurant & Brewery or Blue C Sushi or up the road to Kidd Valley and I'll shop all day.
Next stop was for hubby, although you may not believe me. Seattle Fabrics. Yep, a fabric store. Hubby is making wing and tail covers for the airplane. He needed webbing, elastic, clips and other bibs and bobs. This time I waited in the car, while he shopping. Ebooks are awesome.
The Holiday Inn Express in Lynnwood is relatively new, when we stayed here earlier this summer we were upgraded to a deluxe room, not this time, but that's okay, we'll survive. We had a nap and a snack before hitting Storables, World Market and finally Azteca for dinner. Try finding a healthy option in a Mexican restaurant. Especially when you've skipped lunch. That wasn't the plan. I was so hungry that any intention of ordering the Pollo Mexicano (grilled chicken with green peppers, tomatoes and onions sauteed in a salsa sauce) went out the door. Instead I feasted on Flautas (flour tortillas filled with chicken and deep fried, then garnished with cheese, sour cream and guacamole). Lets just say between Five Guys burgers and Mexican, I'll have to be good for the rest of the week.
What else? Sunday morning we stopped in at Alderwood Mall. Surprisingly I bought nothing. Hubby bought a new pair of running shoes. I guess that means he's going to start running with me. Why else would he buy new shoes? And that was pretty much it. We stopped for lunch, groceries and gas on the way back to the border and then we were home.
Usually we spend the weekend of our wedding anniversary in Seattle, it's US Thanksgiving and all the big sales however the Century Flight Christmas dinner is that weekend. But that's the thing about not having kids or pets (or in my case, a job), it's easy to plan last minute weekends away.
(and the only photos I took all weekend were at Five Guys, so that's all you get to see)
