July 30th to August 5th
30th. Galveston, Oh Galveston... I think I must have heard that Glenn Campbell song a thousand times driving in the car wth my mum. On cassette tape. The song on cassette tape, not my mum. Another home port day. No loading. No plans. I did walk to CVS to stock up on essentials. Then as I was walking back to the ship I trod on a nest of fire ants. Not on purpose. I stopped outside the firehall to take a photo of the fire hydrant and dog that are carved from a tree stump. I accidently stood on the fire ants while taking the photo. Fire ants outside the firehall? How appropriate. My foot is still red, blotchy, lumpy and itchy. But that's not what I was going to say....
As I was walking back to ship I passed EATcetera. I kept walking, then decided I was hungry and it had looked good from the outside so I turned round and walked right on back to have some lunch. Soup, sandwiches, salad... Staples but very well done. I had the smoked applewood ham and Gruyere cheese sandwich. Yuuuuum. I'll eat here again.
31st. Sea day. My team had the night off. So I finished work at 8pm. Well in theory. In reality I stayed to talk to our manager about some stuff and didn't leave until 9pm-ish. Still it's a night off. I had dinner in the staff mess, then watched the production show in the theatre. Just Rock or something like that. I don't have a copy of the fun times with me so don't remember the exact name. But it's music from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's.
1st. Cozumel. Last week I mentioned that I've become complacent about our ports. Today I did something different. You'll have to wait to read about it. Here's a hint...
2nd. Progreso. Yesterday was such a long day and I was so exhausted last night, today I didn't even wake up until 1pm. All I did was go for a run and do my laundry. Well I tried to do my laundry, but the laundry room was out of order for maintenance. Not just one machine but the whole laundry room. Pfft.
3rd. Sea day. I got to sleep in! Woohoo. I was owed time for coming in early to do the liquor cycle count, and today was the day to get my time back.
4th. Galveston. Loading day. 14 pallets. The pallets were late coming onboard. So we barely finished unpacking them in time for lunch.
5th. Sea day. Again! I watched a very small portion of the opening ceremony for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games during my dinner break.
