Why 3A? Earlier this week we received a message from Halfmoon Sea Kayaks letting us know they needed to suspend the challenge for two weeks.
Through the wonder of Facebook, about 1/2 a dozen decided we had already committed to paddling every Thursday through July and August so we arranged to go anyway.
A plan was made to meet at Selma Park Launch, and travel down the coast to Davis Bay, make a pit stop for gelato and paddle home again.
I was a little late arriving, I wasn't actually I was there before 6:00pm but everyone else had already set off. They hadn't gone too far and luckily they saw me pull into the parking lot. Ian paddled back to meet me while the group waited.
When we set of it was a little windy and choppy. It was going to make hard work of the evening. But the weather Gods were with us, and the wind dropped and the chop went flat. It was a beautiful night.
We paddled ashore in Davis Bay. Bill went for a swim and then to jump off the pier, while the rest of us went into Pier 17 for gelato. I used to fly for pie, now I paddle for gelato.
After sitting like nuts on a log eating our gelato, the evening was still young and we were not ready to head back. Instead we continued down the coast a little further to Mission River before turning round and paddling back to Selma Park.
Thanks to Bill, Ian, Pat, Virginia, Sonya and Naomi for letting me tag along. Next week will be Week 3B and a full moon. Full moon paddling, yeah.
