After our pedicures, it was off to the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver for afternoon tea fit for a Queen.
Earlier this year, I bought a Groupon for 2 for 1 afternoon tea. Normally $36.00 per person, the Groupon was $36.00 for two people. I thought this would be a nice birthday treat for the woman who has everything.
In the lead up to the Royal Wedding next week, The Hotel Vancouver is marketing tea as The Royal Wedding Afternoon Tea.
We had our choice of 15 different teas. I went with the Maple Maple Tea. "A lovely caramel-like flavour - adding sugar is recommended as it enhances the taste profile." I was expecting it to he too sweet, but I really enjoyed it. I don't remember what the birthday girl had.
We shared the tower of tiny, delicious food. Starting with crustless cucumber sandwiches. Even with the minted cream cheese and arugula, these were the least tasty items on the menu. There was nothing wrong with them. Just compared to every else they were pretty bland.
Barb enjoyed the West Coast Smoked Salmon with Horseradish Creme Fraiche on Smoked Rye and I inhaled the Warm Mini Croissant filled with Maple Ham, Brie and Dijon Mustard. And we both liked the Bombay Mango Curried Chicken.
Scones with jam and clotted cream were next. Oh they were good. Not as good as the scone by Nan baked, but pretty close.
We finished off with lemon tarts, petite chocolate eclairs and cheesecake.
Everything was very good and tasty, well everything except for the cucumber sandwiches. It was also very filling. It's a good thing we didn't have lunch before we went.
Was it worth it? Not at $36.00 a head. With the Groupon? Yep. It was fun to do. Next time I'd order a glass of bubbly to have after my tea.
