I survived my first day. I hate first days. Meeting new people terrifies me. I'm always worried about being overwhelmed and making a bad first impression. And believe it it not I am actually inherently shy. First days are excruciatingly painful.
But yesterday was not bad. As far as first days go it was pretty good.
At 160+ people you'd think it would be intimidating, but it wasn't. I won't go into too much info because, let's face it, it was training and you don't want to know all the details.
My favourite part of the day was the team building session. Normally company team building can be... Repetitious. Different companies repeat the same team building exercises. I've done the same team building activities at 2 hotels, a bank and a big box retailer. And to be honest I was expecting more of the same.
But I was pleasantly surprised. Our team builder was led by The Drum Cafe. Yep we got to play on drums. And get paid for it. Through the drum playing we demonstrated team work, communication, safety and respect for others.
We were playing those drums so loud that 2 lights fell out if the hotel ceiling!
So my first day back in the working world was a success. I didn't sleep through my alarm clock, I made the West Coast Express on time, I didn't make a fool of myself and Hubby took me out for dinner and a beer to celebrate.
