Roots designed the Canadian Olympic uniforms in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004. (Roots also designed the UK and US uniforms for a couple of years) HBC are now the official suppliers of the Canadian Olympic uniforms. Earlier this month Roots released an international collection in theory to salute the multi cultural tapestry that is Canada. But more likely to take advantage of all the international visitors to the Olympics.
Anyway they messed up with their Australian Hoodie. Did they even ask an Aussie before they produced these? I don't think so.
Roots butchered our flag.
Would they cut off half the Canadian Flag? No. So what gives them right to chop of the Australian Flag? This is what the Australian Flag looks like...
See the 5 stars in the Southern Cross, and the big Commonwealth Star under the Union Jack? They are what make the flag the Australian Flag.
See the hoodie below? It's kind of hard to see, but take a look at the flag on left chest. It's got two small stars, that's it. Where's the Commonwealth Star? Or the rest of the stars in the Southern Cross?
It could be the flag of The Cook Islands. Admittedly The Cook Islands are not sending a team, but still it could be their flag.
And then there's the hood. What is that? It's not anything that an Australian would consider Australian.
It's St George's Cross and St Patrick's Cross. They represent England and Ireland respectively. I have nothing against either nation, in fact I'm quite fond of both. But why are they on an Australian Hoodie?
What the hell were they thinking?
