57 days to go. 57 days until the Opening Ceremony. How exciting, Yes? No! It's stressful. That's only 57 days to get everything done.
I think I was working along in a sea of denial. But today Steph and I went to the UAV (Uniform and Accreditation Centre - Vancouver) to collect our accreditation and uniform. That made everything real. Yep, it's only 57 days to go, and it's only going to get closer.
A volunteer checked our ID and gave us a tag for our accreditation, then we followed the red line to the photo centre. Give me a natural face, but don't smile. Of course as soon as the volunteer told me not to smile, I laughed and couldn't keep a straight face. So it looks like I'm smirking. Nice. At least I only had to take my photo once, Steph was on photo #3 before she had a usable photo.
Keep following the red line to the printers to pick up our accreditation passes. After making fun of each other's photos we then had to compare what access we received to what venues. Should I be jealous that Steph has more access than I do? Nuh huh - more work for her!
Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow the yellow brick road... well at least the yellow line, past the retail kiosk
To the uniform check in. A quick and painless stop - gave my name in exchange for piece of blue paper, blue for mountain venues. Steph was given a yellow sheet for city venues. Follow the grey line (I think, there were a lot of coloured lines).
There were a few people in front of us in waiting area, so we took a number and waited.
85, 85, 85, oops that's me. Away I go. Into a very big corridor with lots of curtained change rooms and lots and lots and lots of uniforms.
I tried on 3 pairs of the mountain pants. #1 - fell straight down, so I passed on those, too chilly. #2, didn't come up over my thighs. #3 - fit, although a little long. I could almost make a 2nd pair of pants out of the too long legs. That's what happens when you're only 5'4".
Didn't have too much luck with the long sleeve tees, or vest - one size was too small, the next size way too large. Chances of me losing 10 pounds over the holidays are slim, so I went with the larger size.
The jacket was easy, the first size I tried on fit. The toque is one size fits all, so no need to try on. I confirmed my sizes with the volunteer and took my blue paper to the warehouse, where another friendly volunteer picked my uniform, and packed it all into a large blue tote.
Last stop - the check out counter, to make sure we had everything we were supposed to have.
Oh. No. There was one more stop. Steph speaks French. So? All Team 2010 members who speak French and English will wear a Bonjour pin to show they speak both official languages of Canada.
All up, including drive time etc we were gone for two hours.
It really is just sinking in that in just 57 days the Games are going to officially start. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
